What is ShroomPen?
ShroomPen is a free BYOK AI writing assistant extension for Chrome. It replies, rewrites, fixes grammar and translates in the field you are typing in, using your own AI provider or a model on your own computer. You install it from the Chrome Web Store.
Does it work in Gmail, LinkedIn and Google Docs?
Yes, and on any normal website: help desks, CMSs, forms, chats. It stays off the pages Chrome keeps to itself, like settings and the Web Store.
Does it change my text on its own?
No. It writes only when you press Reply, Rewrite, Fix Grammar or Translate, and only in the field you are in.
Does it read every page?
No. The first time, it tells you what it can read and waits for you to agree. After that it reads the page or a tab only when you attach it.
Can I see what gets sent?
Yes. Open the request before it goes out and read exactly what your provider will get, with your key hidden.
Can I keep it off a site?
Yes. Add the site to the off list in settings and ShroomPen will not open there at all.
What does it cost?
ShroomPen is free. Your provider bills you for the model at its own prices, or nothing at all with a local model or OpenRouter's free models.
Do I need an account?
Not with ShroomPen. You need one with the provider you choose, or none if you run a model locally.
Can I use Ollama or LM Studio?
Yes. Choose Local server in the provider settings and enter its address, for example http://localhost:11434/v1 for Ollama. No key is needed. Ollama has one extra step: set OLLAMA_ORIGINS to allow the extension, or it refuses the requests with a 403 error.
